The Apex Motor Club Challenge Series: Where Competition Meets Community
At its core, the Apex Motor Club Challenge Series is exactly what motorsports should be: fun, competitive, respectful, and deeply social. Designed exclusively for members of Apex Motor Club, the Challenge Series brings drivers together for gentlemanly racing that emphasizes skill, improvement, and shared experience.
While lap times and podiums certainly matter, the true spirit of the series lies in what happens before and after the checkered flag, drivers comparing notes in the paddock, helping each other with setup tweaks, celebrating clean passes, and reliving moments from the race over food and drinks. It’s competition the Apex way.
Racing Built for Members, by Members
The Challenge Series was created to give members a structured, approachable way to race at Apex without losing the welcoming culture that defines the club. Events are designed to be competitive but accessible, offering a clear format that rewards consistency, race craft, and respect on track. From seasoned racers to members newer to wheel-to-wheel competition, the series creates an environment where everyone can push themselves while knowing they’re racing among friends.
The result is close, exciting battles that stay clean, and a paddock atmosphere that feels more like a community gathering than a high-stress race
weekend.
The Rise of the Miata Class
One of the standout stories this season has been the explosive growth of the Miata class. What started as a small group has grown into a field of more than 20 drivers, making it one of the most competitive and entertaining classes in the series.
Miata racing has always been known for tight packs, momentum-based driving, and thrilling side-by-side action, and the Apex Miata class delivers all of that in spades. With evenly matched cars and skilled drivers, races often come down to consistency, patience, and smart decision-making rather than raw horsepower. It’s some of the best racing you’ll see anywhere, and it has quickly become a favorite among Apex members.
Just as impressive as the on-track action is the collaboration off track. Drivers share advice, lend tools, and openly discuss setup and strategy. The competitiveness is real—but so is the mutual respect.
Multi-Class Drivers, One Unified Series
Another hallmark of the Apex Challenge Series is the number of members who choose to compete in multiple classes. Several drivers run more than one car across different categories, testing their skills in varying formats and keeping each race weekend fresh and dynamic.
This multi-class participation adds depth to the series and highlights the versatility of Apex members. It’s not uncommon to see a driver battling in one class and preparing a completely different car for another race later in the day. That willingness to explore, learn, and challenge oneself is a defining trait of the Apex racing culture.
Gentlemanly Racing, Taken Seriously
“Gentlemanly racing” isn’t just a phrase at Apex, it’s an expectation. Clean passes, respect for fellow competitors, and accountability on track are central to the Challenge Series ethos. While the racing is spirited and competitive, it’s grounded in sportsmanship.
That culture allows drivers to race hard with confidence, knowing that the person alongside them values fairness and safety just as much as the result. It also makes the
series approachable for members who may be racing wheel-to-wheel for the first time, offering a supportive environment to build confidence and skill.
More Than a Race Series
What truly sets the Apex Motor Club Challenge Series apart is that it’s not just about racing. Each event becomes a social touchpoint for the club—an opportunity for members, families, and friends to gather at the track, cheer each other on, and enjoy everything Apex has to offer.
From pre-race conversations in the paddock to post-race celebrations, the series reinforces what makes Apex special: cars, community, and competition, perfectly balanced.
looking ahead
As the series continues to grow, so does the excitement around it. With expanding grids, deeper competition, and more members stepping up to race, the Apex Motor Club Challenge Series is quickly becoming an amazing club experience.
Whether you’re battling for a class win, supporting a fellow member, or considering your first season behind the wheel, the message is the same: this is racing done right. Competitive, welcoming, and undeniably fun, just the way it should be at Apex.
learning to race
While stepping up to your first Apex Challenge race can feel intimidating, the club is committed to making the path into racing approachable, supportive, and rewarding. Apex is in the process of developing a Learn to Race program designed to help members build skills, confidence, and racecraft at their own pace—whether that means understanding flags and race procedures, improving car control, or gaining comfort in close, on-track situations. The goal is simple: to give members of all experience levels a clear, welcoming progression into racing if it’s something they want to pursue. True to the spirit of the Apex Challenge Series, this program will be delivered in a gentlemanly, inclusive manner, ensuring no one feels excluded or intimidated—only encouraged to grow, learn, and enjoy the journey. More details on the Learn to Race program will be shared soon.
Octoberfast at Apex: Where Fall Weather Met Full Throttle Fun
October at Apex Motor Club is always special—and OctoberFast proved exactly why. With perfect Arizona fall weather, blue skies overhead, and engines echoing across the paddock, more than 200 members, families, and guests came together for one of the most relaxed, energetic, and smile-filled events of the season. Designed as a low-pressure, high-fun kickoff to the club year, OctoberFast delivered on every front: cars, community, competition, and plenty of great food.
From the moment members arrived, the atmosphere felt unmistakably Apex. Old friends reunited after the summer heat, new members were welcomed into the fold, and the club buzzed with that familiar blend of excitement and camaraderie that defines the Apex experience. OctoberFast was intentionally designed to be social and inclusive, an event where seasoned drivers, first-time guests, kids, and non-drivers could all explainthe same question: “Did you see that car?”
A Pit Lane Like No Other
One of the highlights of the day was simply walking Track 1 pit lane. The lineup of vehicles on display, and on track, was nothing short of spectacular. From a jaw-dropping Aston Martin Valkyrie to beautifully executed retro-mod vintage trucks and everything in between, the diversity of cars reflected the diversity of the Apex membership itself. It was a rolling gallery of automotive passion, craftsmanship, and personality.
Seeing both long-time members and brand-new faces sharing track time made the day even more meaningful. Laps were taken with a relaxed, non-competitive vibe that encouraged conversation, curiosity, and connection. OctoberFast wasn’t about lap times, it was about shared experience.
Hot Laps, Big Smiles
If there was one constant throughout the event, it was smiles, especially during hot laps. For guests and family members who don’t normally get behind the wheel, riding along with experienced drivers quickly became the highlight of their day. Laughter, wide eyes, and excited storytelling followed every session. It was a perfect reminder that while Apex is built for drivers, the thrill of speed and sound is something everyone can enjoy.
A Garage Crawl That Told a Story
Another crowd favorite was the member garage walk. Touring private garage condos gave guests and fellow members a glimpse into how differently each owner brings their space to life. From pristine showrooms to full-on performance workshops, the garages showcased creativity, individuality, and the deeply personal connection members have with their cars. These moments, standing in a garage, swapping stories, admiring builds, are often where the strongest connections are made.
BBQ, Brats, and Trackside Community
No Apex gathering would be complete without good food, and OctoberFast delivered with a BBQ lunch served right on pit lane. The smell of grilled favorites filled the air as members gathered under the shade, plates in hand, enjoying relaxed conversation and laughter. It was casual, comfortable, and exactly how an Apex event should feel, breaking bread together in the heart of the action.
Karting Launch: The Next Generation Takes the Wheel
One of the most exciting milestones of the day was the official launch of karting at Apex. From the first green flag, it was clear this addition was a hit, especially with the kids. Young drivers lined up eagerly, helmets on, ready for “just one more lap.” Parents watched from the sidelines as smiles refused to fade, and more than a few adults admitted they were already planning their own karting sessions. The karting launch perfectly captured the spirit of OctoberFast: fun, accessible, and family-friendly.
A Perfect Start to the Season
OctoberFast marked more than just a great day at the track, it marked the beginning of a new feeling at Apex. The event brought together everything that makes the club special: incredible cars, world-class facilities, welcoming community, and experiences that go beyond driving.
As envisioned in the original event concept, OctoberFast was about celebrating the present while looking ahead, welcoming members back after summer, sharing what’s new around the club, and enjoying the simple joy of being together at Apex. Judging by the turnout, the laughter, and the lingering conversations long after engines cooled, it’s safe to say OctoberFast has firmly earned its place as an annual Apex tradition.
We can’t wait to see where the season takes us next.
